Live Itineraries - Why being able to adjust to disruptions matters

When disruption happens, whether it is a major event like a war in the Middle East, a forest fire in a national park, or a hurricane, or something smaller like a road closure or a shut-down attraction, travel doesn’t simply stop. It becomes uncertain, fragmented, and increasingly difficult to manage for both travelers and the organizations supporting them. This is where Live Itineraries (a Simplified.Travel product) becomes critical.
At its core, Live Itineraries (with Watchdog) is only as powerful as the data it starts with. For it to work effectively, the traveler’s original itinerary must have already been created and stored within the platform. That original plan is what allows us to move from generic disruption alerts to highly specific, actionable guidance.
The AI knows where a traveler planned to be, when they planned to be there, and what they intended to experience, that allows a precision response.
Our Watchdog agent can monitor for disruption scenarios, looking at a range of data sources, which may include government advisories, transportation disruptions, and regional safety updates. When something changes, the traveler isn't simply notified. Instead the AI assesses how that change impacts their specific itinerary.
From there, the platform can:
Identify exactly which parts of the trip are affected
Alert the traveler with clear, relevant context
Recommend alternative destinations, routes, or experiences that align with their original intent
For example, if a traveler had planned to visit a region that is no longer considered safe, we can suggest comparable destinations that match their interests, timing, and travel style. This is not a generic reroute. It is a continuation of the trip they were already planning, adjusted to the new reality.
Without that original itinerary in place, this level of personalization is not possible.
For DMOs, hotels, and travel agencies, this shifts the role from reactive communication to proactive experience management. Instead of losing the traveler entirely, there is an opportunity to redirect them to safer locations, maintain engagement, and continue delivering value even in highly volatile situations.
Live Itineraries is ultimately about resilience. It ensures that when the unexpected happens, whether it is geopolitical conflict, weather events, or infrastructure disruption, the traveler is not left starting over. They are guided forward with a plan that still reflects what they wanted from their journey in the first place.
